(260402) -- CAPE TOWN, April 2, 2026 (Xinhua) -- Military and police vehicles patrol on the street of Mitchells Plain in Cape Town, South Africa, on April 1, 2026. A total of 2,200 soldiers have been deployed to patrol high-crime areas in the Western Cape and four other provinces, in coordination with the South African Police Service (SAPS), to combat escalating gang violence and illegal mining. The deployment, which forms part of Operation Prosper, will run from April 1 to March 31, 2027.
